TRUMP CABINET TAKES SHAPE... Donald Trump yesterday said he would nominate Kelly Loeffler to be the next Administrator of the Small Business Administration. She served as Georgia Senator for two years after being appointed to the seat vacated by Sen. Johnny Isakson, but lost in a special election. Prior to that she was the chief executive of Bakkt, a cryptocurrency trading platform.

U.S. REPRESENTATIVE MCHENRY AND REPRESENTATIVE WATERS INTRODUCE MEASURES ON AI IN FINANCE... U.S. Representatives Patrick McHenry (R-NC) and Maxine Waters (D-CA) have introduced two bipartisan measures addressing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in financial services and housing. McHenry, chair of the House Financial Services Committee, presented a resolution, co-sponsored by Waters, recognizing the increasing role of AI in these industries. Meanwhile, Waters, the committee's ranking member, introduced a bill, co-sponsored by McHenry, calling for federal financial regulators to assess both the benefits and risks of AI within the financial and housing sectors.

THE STATE OF THE STATES

SESSIONS BY THE NUMBERS:

Six states are in regular session.

WHAT WE'RE WATCHING:

House and Senate Democrats in the Michigan Legislature have revived a plan to curb price gouging on essential goods and services during emergencies. The proposal would cap price increases on emergency supplies, lodging and energy products at 10% if an emergency declaration is issued. Critics argue setting arbitrary price controls during crises would “create more problems than it solves.”

Georgia’s Senate Committee on Affordable Childcare held its final hearing this week on proposals to help families cover the cost of child care. The committee is expected to release findings later this month, with lawmakers considering a $1.5 billion investment in a child care trust fund.
